In good shape
The narrow tract of land seems the wrong way round
because of the access from the south and the regulation stipulating that the building has to be set back
4 metres behind the plot boundary.
This means crossing
the front garden and following a passageway in order
to enter the house from an inner courtyard. The passageway and courtyard are flanked by a wall made of
precast concrete blocks. They create interplays of light
and perspective effects from and into the interior and
exterior, the public and private spheres. Four large windows open up the view through the various layers of
the house, alternating from and to the outside and inside through the front garden, kitchen, courtyard, living
room and garden.
lt was necessary to find a suitable
wall type from the wide range on the market: it had to
define the property, preventing a view into the interior
while at the same time allowing enough light into the
inner courtyard.
